Three From Louisiana Cited After Allegedly Damaging a Deer Stand and Harassing a Hunter

Louisiana – On February 22, 2023, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) reported that enforcement agents cited three subjects for alleged harassment of hunters on February 18 in St. Mary Parish.

Laci L. Broussard, 43, Michael Vincent, 44, and Merrill Jacob, 65, all of Franklin, Louisiana, were cited for harassment of people lawfully hunting. Broussard was also arrested for criminal property damage in excess of $1,000 and hunting without a basic hunting license.

Agents received a report on December 14, 2022, about a hunter who got into a verbal confrontation on his hunting lease and was threatened that his personal possessions will be harmed if they were not removed. When the hunter returned to his hunting lease, he discovered that his deer stand, which was worth over $3,000, had been shot many times.

Agents obtained additional images from the hunter’s game camera showing Broussard making obscene gestures after further inquiry. From the deer stand, agents also collected 9 mm casings and a 9 mm projectile.

Agents made contact with the subjects on February 18, and they admitted to urinating in the hunter’s feed pile. Broussard also acknowledged to firing her 9 mm pistol at the deer stand. Agents apprehended her and placed her into the St. Mary Parish jail.

Criminal property damage in excess of $1,000 carries a $1,000 fine and two years in jail. Harassment of people lawfully hunting and hunting without a basic hunting license is punishable by a $350 fine per offense.

Sgt. Jake Darden and Corporal Steven Jackson are the agents involved in the case.

A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
