The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Releases Information about Fatal Crash on Houston River Road Near Sulphur July 2, 2019
Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at approximately 6:45 p.m., the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle accident in the 2200 block of Houston River Road in Sulphur. When deputies arrived they spoke with a witness who stated they were traveling westbound on Houston River Road when a car passed them in a no passing zone at a high rate of speed. They advised deputies that further down the road they observed the car drift off the roadway to the left. The preliminary investigation revealed after the car drifted off the roadway for unknown reasons, it struck a driveway and ditch, went airborne and traveled over 300 feet before striking a culvert. The driver, Austin W. Hebert, 35, Vinton, was pronounced dead at the scene.
It appears speed may be the cause of the accident but the investigation is still continuing.
