Texas Woman Killed, Others Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 112 in Louisiana
Louisiana - On November 10, 2022, Louisiana State Police reported that on November 8, 2022, at about 11:50 a.m., LSP Troop E responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 112 at Louisiana Highway 113. Mattie Witmer, 82, of Bon Wier, Texas, was killed in this crash.
Witmer was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Spark westbound on Louisiana Highway 112. Witmer failed to stop at the intersection of Louisiana Highway 113 for unknown reasons and was struck by a northbound 2017 GMC Sierra.
Witmer, whose seatbelt usage is unknown, suffered severe injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Troop E was notified on November 9, 2022, that Witmer had died as a result of her injuries. Two passengers in the Chevrolet had moderate injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. The GMC's driver was unharmed. Routine toxicological samples were taken and analyzed.
While the reason for this incident is still being investigated, distracted and inattentive driving remains a significant cause of crashes in our state. The Louisiana State Police urges all motorists to drive cautiously. A slip in awareness can be fatal.
Troopers with LSP Troop E have investigated 49 fatal crashes so far in 2022, resulting in 51 deaths.
