Iowa, Louisiana - A Texas man has succumbed to injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash on I-10 near LA 383 in Calcasieu Parish.

A single-vehicle accident involving a motorcycle occurred on Interstate 10 just west of LA Hwy 383 (N. Thompson Street) in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana on August 4, 2023, shortly after 5:30 p.m. Louisiana State Police Troop D initiated an investigation into the incident. Sadly, the accident claimed the life of Joseph Robert West who was 46 years old and a resident of Anahuac, Texas.

Initial findings from the investigation indicate that West was operating a 2017 KTM Duke motorcycle and traveling eastbound on I-10 in the outer lane. It is unclear what caused West to lose control of the motorcycle, leading to him being thrown from the bike. Despite wearing a DOT-approved helmet, West suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Lafayette, Louisiana.

The crash remains under investigation, and on August 8, 2023, Troop D was informed that West had passed away due to his injuries.

LSP indicated that Troop D has investigated a total of 18 fatal crashes resulting in 20 deaths so far in 2023
