Houston Man Sentenced After Pleading Guilty in a Louisiana Court to Trafficking More than 2 lbs of Heroin and 11 lbs of Cocaine

New Orleans, Louisiana – A 47-year-old Texas man was sentenced to 20 months in prison for his role in a drug trafficking conspiracy that involved the distribution of more than a kilogram (2.2 lbs) of heroin and over five kilograms (11 lbs) of cocaine. The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and other law enforcement agencies in Louisiana and Texas as part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force’s efforts to disrupt and dismantle major drug trafficking organizations.

On Wednesday, December 14, 2022, U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that Alejandro Munoz, age 47, a resident of Houston, Texas, was sentenced in a federal court in Louisiana on December 8, 2022, by U.S. District Judge Eldon E. Fallon to a term of twenty months imprisonment followed by a term of three years supervised release and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee after pleading guilty to a one-count indictment that charged him with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin and five kilograms or more of cocaine hydrochloride, in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1), 841(b)(1)(A), and 846.

Special Agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration identified MUNOZ as a supplier of heroin and cocaine hydrochloride to individuals in Houston, Texas, and New Orleans, Louisiana, beginning in October 2014, according to court records.

This case is part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force’s broad investigation (OCDETF). OCDETF is the nation’s primary tool for disrupting and dismantling major drug trafficking organizations, targeting national and regional drug trafficking organizations, and coordinating the necessary law enforcement entities and resources to disrupt or dismantle the targeted criminal organization and seize its assets.

The New Orleans, Louisiana, and Houston, Texas offices of the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the New Orleans Police Department, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated this case.
