Texas Man Killed in Morning 18-Wheeler Rollover Crash on I-10 in Louisiana

Louisiana – According to Louisiana State Police, Troopers from LSP Troop D responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash on the off-ramp from Interstate 10 to US Highway 165 in Jefferson Davis Parish on August 13, 2022, soon after 10:30 a.m. Antonio William Vega, 71, of Midland, Texas, was killed in the crash.

According to preliminary investigations, Vega was driving a 1997 Peterbilt east on I-10 in the departure lane for US Hwy 165 when he failed to negotiate a right-hand curve into the exit ramp. The Peterbilt drove off the left side of the road and overturned multiple times.

Vega died as a result of his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Speed is thought to have played a role in this crash. A toxicological sample was acquired from Vega and will be analyzed. This crash is still being investigated.

Speeding impairs a driver’s ability to steer safely around other vehicles or obstacles on the road, increases the distance required to stop a vehicle, and increases the distance a vehicle travels while the driver reacts to a situation. Speeding and other aggressive driving habits are major causes of highway accidents and fatalities.

So far in 2022, Troop D has investigated 15 fatal crashes that resulted in 17 deaths.
