Lake Charles, Louisiana - The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office Special Victims Unit arrested a Texas man on rape charges following an investigation that began in mid-October.
Oliver Ramos, 37, of Rosharon, Texas, was arrested on October 24 and charged with third degree rape. He was released the following day on a $400,000 bond set by Judge Tony Fazzio.
The investigation began on October 17 after detectives received a complaint regarding a sexual assault. According to the victim's statement to investigators, she went to a bar with someone she had recently met and knew as Oliver. She told detectives that she passed out later that evening and regained consciousness to find him raping her.
Detectives with the Special Victims Unit conducted an investigation that led them to identify the suspect as Ramos. After gathering evidence and information over the course of a week, investigators located Ramos on October 24 and placed him under arrest.
Ramos was transported to the Calcasieu Correctional Center and formally booked on the third degree rape charge. Under Louisiana law, third degree rape occurs when the victim is incapable of resisting or understanding the nature of the act due to factors including intoxication.
Ramos was released from the Calcasieu Correctional Center on October 25 after posting bond.
Detective Chassie Huval serves as the lead investigator on the case.
