Suspect Identified in Deadly October 30 Officer-Involved Shooting in Louisiana
Louisiana – Louisiana State State Police Police reported on November 1, 2022, that on October 30, 2022, investigators assigned to the LSP Bureau of Investigations were asked to investigate a shooting involving the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) received a complaint about a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 46000 block of Laurie Drive on October 30, 2022, at approximately 10:10 a.m. The individual reportedly barricaded himself inside a vehicle shortly after arriving. Deputies from the TPSO then attempted to negotiate with the suspect. During the conversations, the subject suggested that he had an explosive device in his possession and fired a weapon into the air. The individual then exited the truck, armed with a rifle and carrying a backpack on his chest, which was later discovered to contain binary explosive targets. TPSO deputies and Hammond Police Department officers then reportedly fired their service firearms at the suspect, and fatally wounded him.
The person, later identified as Randall Bass, 47, of Hammond, died at the scene.
During the event, no law enforcement personnel were hurt.
The Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory is processing the scene of this officer-involved shooting, which is being investigated by the Louisiana State Police. The investigation is still open and ongoing. More information will be made accessible when it becomes available.
