Suspect Arrested in Louisiana Case After Investigation Finds Shooting was not Accidental

Baton Rouge, Louisiana – A suspect has been arrested in a Louisiana case after an investigation finds that the shooting was not accidental.

Khalil Holmes, aged 27, was taken into police custody on July 3, 2023, by Baton Rouge Police Homicide Detectives. The arrest was made in connection with the shooting death of Aklyah Dorsey, aged 20, that took place on June 16, 2023, at approximately 1:00 am. Dorsey was discovered lying in the driveway of a home located in the 9000 Block of North Parkview Dr. with a single gunshot wound to her neck. She subsequently died at the scene.

Investigations revealed that the shooting was not accidental, contrary to Holmes’ initial statement, in which he claimed that the gun accidentally discharged while Dorsey was handing it to him. It was later discovered that the two were in a relationship.

Holmes was apprehended without any resistance at his residence and was later booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for 2nd Degree Murder, Illegal Use of a Weapon, and Obstruction of Justice.

Authorities are asking that anyone with any details regarding the shooting incident contact the Violent Crimes Unit at (225) 389-4869 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
