SULPHUR, La. — A late-night shed fire in north Sulphur was brought under control early Tuesday morning, leaving the outbuilding destroyed and causing minor damage to a nearby home, according to the Houston River Fire Department.

The blaze was reported at approximately 12:15 a.m. on Carswell Street in Sulphur. Dispatchers advised that a shed was on fire and threatening a residence on the property.

Houston River Fire Department responded with multiple units, including Command Unit 91, Ladder 1, Engines 1 and 2, Service Unit 2, and Rehab 1. Ward Six Fire Protection District No. One also responded under an automatic-aid agreement, which allows neighboring departments to assist each other on calls. Acadian Ambulance and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office were also on scene in support roles.

Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control, limiting the damage to the nearby home. However, crews remained on scene for what officials described as “extensive overhaul,” a standard process in which firefighters check for and extinguish any remaining hot spots to prevent the fire from rekindling.

Despite the rapid response, the shed was declared a total loss. The home sustained only minor damage, and no injuries were reported among residents, responders, or bystanders.

All fire units cleared the scene and were back in service by 2:15 a.m., the department reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and officials have not yet released any details on how or where the fire started inside the shed. No further information was available.
