Sulphur, Louisiana - The City of Sulphur is preparing to roll out an upgraded utility payment system at the end of September or the beginning of October, promising a streamlined experience for residents. According to city officials, this new system will introduce a personal customer portal, improved access to payment history, optional paperless billing, and a redesigned bill format.
The new online portal will make it easier for customers to track past payments, opt for digital notifications, and view bills in a modern format. These changes are designed to enhance transparency, offer greater convenience, and support the city’s ongoing efforts to digitize services. Notably, registration for the new system will become available through the city’s website after residents receive their utility bills dated Sep. 20, Sep. 30, or Oct. 10.
City administrators emphasized that while the payment system may be new to the public, Sulphur has been phasing it in internally for about two years, with successful results at each step. This approach aimed to ensure stability and readiness before launching the system to all utility customers. The city reassures residents that preparation and testing should minimize disruptions, stating staff have worked to deliver a smooth transition.
For those who prefer traditional options, registration for the digital portal remains optional. Residents can continue paying bills in person at Sulphur’s Municipal Business Center, located at 110 N. Huntington St., or utilize payment methods such as check, money order, debit, and credit cards; American Express is not accepted. The office operates weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays.
Customers can also access other convenient payment options, including automatic bank drafts for water, sewer, and trash services. To enroll, customers must fill out an authorization form and provide a voided check, either by email or in person. Online payment with a debit card, credit card, or bank account will continue for those who already use these methods.
For questions or assistance, citizens are encouraged to contact Sulphur’s Utility Department at 337-527-4522 or [email protected].
