Sulphur, Louisiana - West Parish Road in Sulphur is closed to traffic between McMillan Street and Picard Road for roadway resurfacing and is expected to remain shut down until 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, according to local officials.
The closure affects a key neighborhood route, and drivers in the area are being advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for travel. The work is part of ongoing efforts to improve roadway conditions and provide a smoother driving surface along the corridor.
During the closure, traffic is being detoured using Picard Road, Sarah Street, and McMillan Street. These nearby streets offer an alternate path around the construction zone, but motorists should still expect delays, especially during peak morning and afternoon travel times.
Residents who live along West Parish Road will still be able to access their homes throughout the project, officials said. Access to the driveways for SPAR (Sulphur Parks and Recreation) facilities in the area will also be maintained so that visitors and staff can continue to enter and exit the property.
Crews are focused on resurfacing the roadway, a process that typically includes milling, or grinding down, the old pavement and then laying new asphalt to extend the life of the road and improve safety for drivers. While the exact work schedule was not detailed, officials noted that construction progress could be affected by inclement weather, which may slow or temporarily halt operations if heavy rain or storms move through the area.
Drivers are urged to use caution when traveling near the work zone, follow all posted signs, and watch for workers and construction equipment.
The closure is expected to end by 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, if weather conditions cooperate and no unexpected delays occur.
