Sulphur, Louisiana - A water main break at the intersection of West Burton Street and North Stanford Street in Sulphur is causing reduced water pressure for area residents, city officials announced.

The City of Sulphur confirmed that residents living near the affected intersection may notice lower than normal water pressure due to the infrastructure failure. A water main is a large pipe that carries treated water from treatment facilities to neighborhoods and businesses throughout a community.

Maintenance crews have been dispatched to the scene and are actively working to repair the damaged water main. City officials have not provided an estimated timeline for when normal water pressure will be restored to the affected area.

Water main breaks can occur for various reasons, including aging infrastructure, extreme temperature changes, ground shifts, or increased water demand that puts additional stress on the system. These incidents typically result in reduced water pressure or temporary service interruptions for nearby customers while repairs are completed.

The intersection of West Burton Street and North Stanford Street serves a residential area of Sulphur, and the extent of the affected service area has not been specified by city officials. Residents experiencing water pressure issues are advised that the problem has been identified and repair efforts are underway.

As of September 2, 2025, at 10 pm, the City of Sulphur had not indicated whether any boil water advisories will be necessary following the repair work. Such advisories are sometimes issued after water main breaks to ensure public safety while the system is tested and cleared for normal use.

Updates on the repair progress and restoration of normal water pressure are expected to be provided by the city as work continues.
