Sulphur Public Works Taking Steps to Prevent Waterline Breaks and Improve Quality of Service
The City of Sulphur has recently experienced multiple waterline breaks. These breaks have resulted in low pressure, no pressure, and in some cases the need to issue a boil order in areas of the city. Many of the recent line breaks have occurred in or near the Maplewood area of the city. While city workers have been able to repair the lines pretty quickly in most cases, there are also plans to add preventative measures to the lines and water supply system.
These changes will likely lead to saved money for the city as well as a better quality of service for residents.
After a recent early morning waterline break in the Maplewood area of Sulphur, Stacy Falgout Dowden, Public Works Director for the City of Sulphur said this:
“We are looking at putting in some sensors to really see hard data on what is going on in the lines before we spent funds on regulators. We hired an additional water plant supervisor with over 28 years of experience a few months ago, and he, and the rest of the water plant staff, are diligently working to make necessary changes and updates to the plant.
The City has also added water line upgrade funds, again, for the upcoming budget year. Lots of money being spent on infrastructure that you can’t see and that you don’t think about until it doesn’t work.”
