Sulphur Police Announce an Arrest, Charges, and Updated Information in July Identity Theft Case

Sulphur, Louisiana - The Sulphur Police Department issued an update on a July 10, 2022, identity theft investigation on September 12, 2022. On July 10, the Sulphur Police Department received a complaint about a possible identity theft at a business on South Cities Service Hwy.

An investigation revealed that Dayshia Hardy was collecting credit and debit card information from customers.
Detective Jeremy Cain was tasked with following up on and investigating the case.

During the next two months, Detective Cain was able to identify roughly sixty-two people whose credit or debit card information had been stolen.
The probe discovered that Hardy was using credit and debit card information to make online purchases and transferring credit and debit card information to others.

Dayshia Hardy was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on the following charges.

  • 54 Counts Misdemeanor Identity Theft.
  • 1 Count Felony Identity Theft.
  • 6 Counts Felony Identity Theft (Theft of persons aged 60 or older).
  • 1 Count of Felony Identity Theft (Person under the age of 17).
  • Criminal Conspiracy
  • Illegal Transmission of Monetary Funds.

Sulphur Police Detective Cain identified two additional suspects who used and or obtained the credit/debit card information where Arrest Warrants have been obtained for the following charges:

Suspect 1:

  • 22 Counts of Misdemeanor Identity Theft
  • 1 Count Felony Identity Theft
  • 1 Count Criminal Conspiracy

Suspect 2:

  • 1 Count Misdemeanor Identity Theft
  • 1 Count Criminal Conspiracy

The Sulphur Police Department indicated that the identities of the additional suspect will be released once they are arrested.

The investigation is still ongoing and additional charges are expected.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
