SULPHUR, LA — The City of Sulphur announced plans for a full-day intersection closure for repairs to the intersection of Hwy 90 and Huntington Street.

The intersection of Highway 90 and Huntington Street will be completely closed to all traffic beginning Monday, April 14, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. City officials have not specified an end time, stating the closure will remain in effect "until completion" of the necessary road repairs.

Motorists who regularly use this route should prepare to follow designated detours. Those traveling south on Huntington Street will be redirected to West Verdine Street, while northbound traffic will be detoured onto West Thomas Street.

Drivers are asked to follow signage, use caution when driving in this area, and detour when necessary.

The closure affects a significant intersection in Sulphur's transportation network. Highway 90, also known as Napoleon Street within city limits, serves as a major east-west corridor through southwestern Louisiana.

The repair comes after a water main broke near the intersection.

Drivers are encouraged to plan alternative routes in advance of the closure date and to allow extra travel time during the construction period. City officials will likely provide updates as the project progresses and if the completion timeline changes.
