According to a press release from the Sulphur Police Department, officers were dispatched at 3:34 p.m. on January 14, 2026, to a reported traffic crash on I-10 near mile marker 23 in Calcasieu Parish. The crash involved a 2018 Suzuki motorcycle and a 2015 Nissan truck, both traveling westbound.
Investigators said the motorcycle, driven by Sean J. Molitor, 19, of Sulphur, was heading west on I-10 when it struck the Nissan truck, which was also moving westbound in the same area. The impact caused Molitor to lose control of the motorcycle, which then slid into the cable barrier in the interstate median.
Police reported that Molitor was ejected from the motorcycle and died on the scene from his injuries.
The Nissan truck also lost control during the incident and hit the cable barriers. The driver of the truck reported only minor injuries, according to Sulphur Police. No other vehicles were mentioned as being involved in the crash, and no further details on road conditions, speed, or potential contributing factors were provided in the initial release.
Cable barriers are tensioned steel cables installed along medians to help prevent vehicles from crossing into oncoming traffic. In this case, both the motorcycle and the truck struck the barrier system during the crash sequence.
The Sulphur Police Department has not released any information indicating that charges have been filed or are pending. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are asking the public for assistance.
Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact Capt. Cheaney with the Sulphur Police Department at 337-527-4550. As the investigation continues, no further details about Molitor or the driver of the Nissan truck were included in the department’s statement.
