Basile, Louisiana — A 62-year-old Sulphur man was killed New Year’s Day in a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 190 in Acadia Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.

Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to the incident around 7 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2026, near Bryan Perrodin Loop on LA 190. The crash involved a 2001 Toyota Tundra and a 2015 GMC Canyon and resulted in one death and two serious injuries.

Authorities identified the deceased driver as David Doucet, 62, of Sulphur, Louisiana.

Preliminary Crash Details

Based on the initial investigation, State Police said Doucet was driving a 2001 Toyota Tundra westbound in the eastbound lanes of LA Highway 190. At the same time, a 2015 GMC Canyon was traveling east in the proper eastbound lane of the same highway.

For reasons that remain under investigation, the Toyota Tundra collided head-on with the front of the GMC Canyon.

The collision caused fatal injuries to Doucet and serious injuries to the occupants of the GMC.

Fatal Injuries And Serious Hospitalizations

According to Louisiana State Police, Doucet was properly restrained at the time of the crash. Despite wearing a seat belt, he sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the GMC Canyon were also properly restrained. Both suffered serious injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Authorities did not release their names or specific conditions.

Ongoing Investigation And Toxicology Testing

As part of standard procedure in fatal and serious-injury roadway incidents, toxicology samples were collected from both drivers. These samples will be analyzed to determine whether impairment, such as alcohol or drug use, played any role in the crash.

Findings from the toxicology reports and scene reconstruction may be released at a later date in an official update.

Location And Highway Information

The crash occurred on Louisiana Highway 190 (LA 190) near Bryan Perrodin Loop in Acadia Parish. LA 190 is a major east–west highway that crosses several parishes, carrying local and regional traffic across south-central Louisiana.

Authorities: Investigation Continues

No charges have been announced, and no additional details on the GMC occupants have been provided as of this report. Louisiana State Police Troop I continues to handle the investigation.
