Sulphur, Louisiana - A Sulphur man has been arrested following a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office investigation into an allegation involving child sexual abuse material, according to information released by the agency.
Detectives with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) Special Victims Unit opened the case on October 28 after receiving a report that 39-year-old Jarett L. Tyler, of Sulphur, may have been in possession of child sexual abuse material, also known as CSAM. CSAM is the legal term used to describe any visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct involving a minor.
The complaint originated from a person who told deputies they had been given permission to use Tyler’s phone. While using the device, the complainant reported seeing what they believed to be CSAM and contacted law enforcement.
During the course of the investigation, detectives spoke with Tyler. According to CPSO, Tyler advised investigators that he had looked up child sexual abuse material in the past. Detectives then obtained a search warrant for the phone.
A forensic review of the device confirmed the presence of one image of suspected CSAM, authorities said. After that finding, the case was forwarded to the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office for review.
Following that review, an arrest warrant was issued for Tyler on the charge of pornography involving juveniles, which is a felony offense under Louisiana law. CPSO reported that Tyler was located on January 12, taken into custody, and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center.
Judge Tony Fazzio set Tyler’s bond at $100,000.
The investigation is being led by CPSO Special Victims Unit Detective Eric Perry. No additional details were released, and the sheriff’s office did not report any other suspects or victims in connection with this case based on the information provided.
As with all criminal cases, the charge is an allegation, and Tyler is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
