Sulphur Man Arrested for Alleged Child Trafficking, Animal Cruelty, and Cockfighting

Sulphur, Louisiana – Detectives from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office were notified of a rape reported on April 8th.

The victim, who is under 16 years old, revealed that Derek F. Thibodeaux, Jr., 55, from Sulphur, Louisiana was sexually abusing her. The victim was able to give detectives specific information about the abuse, which was confirmed during the execution of a search warrant.

Upon further examination, it was discovered that Thibodeaux had a significant number of roosters tied to separate shelters along with equipment for cockfighting. Additionally, a dog was found at his home with neck injuries, most likely from being tethered for an extended duration.

Thibodeaux was taken into custody on April 24 and brought to the Calcasieu Correctional Center. He faces charges of trafficking of children for sexual purposes; aggravated cruelty to animals; and cockfighting. Judge Clayton Davis ordered his bail to be $1,215,000.

Calcasieu Parish Animal Services took possession of the dog and ensured it received necessary medical treatment.

Detective Kara Adams from CPSO is the main investigator on this particular case.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
