Sulphur, Louisiana - The City of Sulphur has announced that directional drilling work will continue across several neighborhoods, with multiple new locations added to the project area as of Feb. 27, 2026.

According to the city’s update, contractors are currently working, or will soon be working, in the following areas:

  • Maplewood and Garden Street
  • Self Street and South Cities Service Highway
  • Theresa and St. Francis Street
  • Hollywood Lane and Vine Street
  • Sara and Brandi Street
  • Tillman and Sara Street
  • Sara and Eunice Street
  • Ashley and Tillman Street
  • Kim and Dale Street
  • South Crocker and West Napoleon Street
  • Center Avenue and Pinewood Drive

Newly added directional drilling locations include:

  • Harmon Road and Maplewood Drive
  • Beauregard Avenue and Maplewood Drive
  • Maplewood Drive and Prater Road
  • Maplewood Drive and East End Avenue
  • All of the neighborhood from Gale Street to Cities Service Highway and from Interstate 10 to Maplewood Drive

The work is part of an ongoing infrastructure effort involving directional drilling, a construction method used to install or replace underground utility lines with less surface disruption than traditional open-cut trenching. This technique allows crews to drill horizontally underground, which can reduce road closures and surface damage, but may still lead to short-term service interruptions or localized traffic impacts.

The newly listed zones, especially those around Maplewood Drive and the larger neighborhood area from Gale Street to Cities Service Highway and from I-10 to Maplewood Drive, indicate a broader phase of the project in Sulphur’s Maplewood area. The city did not provide a completion date in this update, but stated that locations would continue to change as work progresses.

City officials advised residents and businesses in the affected areas to stay alert for crews, equipment, and any posted construction signage. The City of Sulphur stated it will continue to update citizens as these locations change.

Residents who experience any disruption to services related to the directional drilling work are asked to contact the city at (337) 313-1153 or (337) 527-4500.
