Sulphur, Louisiana - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will close two lanes of Interstate 10 eastbound in Sulphur on Friday morning for scheduled roadway maintenance work.
The left and center lanes of I-10 eastbound over Louisiana Highway 1256, also known as Ruth Street, in Sulphur, will be closed from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Friday, August 29, 2025. The right lane will remain open to traffic during the three-hour closure period.
State transportation officials said the temporary lane restrictions are necessary to allow crews to perform essential roadway maintenance in the area. The department has not specified the exact nature of the maintenance work to be conducted.
Motorists traveling eastbound on I-10 through Sulphur should expect delays and plan for additional travel time during the morning closure window. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development recommends drivers consider alternate routes or adjust their travel schedules to avoid the affected area between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.
The closure affects a key section of interstate highway that serves as a major transportation corridor for southwest Louisiana. I-10 carries significant daily traffic volumes through Calcasieu Parish, connecting Lake Charles to points east and serving as a critical route for both local commuters and long-distance travelers.
Traffic control measures will be in place during the closure to guide vehicles safely through the work zone. Drivers are advised to reduce speeds, maintain safe following distances, and exercise caution when approaching and traveling through the construction area.
The department expects to reopen all lanes by 10 a.m. on Friday, weather permitting.
