Sulphur, Louisiana – In a remarkable display of leadership and commitment to community service, the Sulphur High School LEAD Council unveiled their 2024 Community Project at the Sulphur Senior Center. The LEAD Council, a group of selected students dedicated to fostering leadership and collaboration skills, embarked on a mission to make a positive impact on their community through innovation and dedication.
Under the guidance of Teacher Facilitator Tyrella Bushnell, the 2023-2024 Sulphur High School LEAD Council, comprised of Luke Francois, Monet Richard, Ian Landry, June Washington, Conner Doty, Keiyhana Ballard, Brennan Mayes, Rhyan Guillotte, Elon Hubanks, Lillian Gann, Colby Jackson, Sophie Howard, and Americus Hardy, spearheaded a transformative project at the Sulphur Senior Center.
The LEAD Council’s $20,000 donation was instrumental in acquiring essential resources for the Sulphur Senior Center, including a sound system, a PA system, tables, chairs, and mobile carts for improved storage and transport capabilities. Beyond monetary contributions, the students generously volunteered their time to organize the center’s storage shed, revamp the food pantry and hygiene cabinet, and finance the purchase of Mardi Gras t-shirts and new sidewalks for enhanced accessibility.
The project not only signifies the Council’s dedication to serving the community but also highlights their capacity to identify unmet needs through rigorous research and collaboration with key stakeholders, such as elected officials, non-profit organizations, and business leaders.
The Sulphur High School LEAD Council’s initiative at the Sulphur Senior Center stands as a testament to the transformative power of youth leadership and community engagement. Through their innovative approach and unwavering commitment, these students have not only enriched the lives of the senior community but have also set a shining example for future generations to follow.
