A group of citizens, businesses, and organizations have come together to provide free clean water to the citizens of Sulphur, Louisiana who cannot get it from their Sulphur City water tap at home.

Over the past several years, many citizens in the City of Sulphur in Southwest Louisiana have been having problems with the water coming out of the tap at their homes and businesses. The complaints are typically about the odor, color, and taste of the water. Some residents have also said that the water is so discolored that it is staining their clothes, bedding, toilets, and sinks.

Because of the problems with the city water in Sulphur, a group has come together to provide free public clean water stations.

More details about the water stations in Sulphur will be published on this page when they become available.

Filtered water station is open!! 624 W. Verdine. I will bring it into my locked backyard at night, but it will be out during the day. Please don’t block traffic. You can park across the road or in the driveway on either side of mine, or in my driveway. I have a few empty 1 gallon jugs in the bag beside the sink. It is not for washing hands – only for getting filtered water. We make no claims as to it’s safety, but as you will see it runs from the faucet through a drinking water safe hose to the filter and then to the faucet. make your own determination as to safety! I can’t say that it is potable water, as it has not been tested, but you can make your own decisions and get some. The filters will need to be replaced at some point, so if you want to make a donation to micah 6:8 mission for that, use the PayPal link and note (water filters) and that is what we will use it for. It may not look pretty, but it works and the water tastes delicious!

Update on the public free clean water stations
The filters for the free filtered water stations have arrived in Sulphur and we had meetings today to view each site.
Everyone is very excited and as soon as the contractors and plumbers give it the final install/inspection there will be an announcement with all the details for using the service.
This is a grassroots effort to help alleviate some of the strain of having to buy bottled water for literally everything: cooking, bathing, drinking and cleaning, I truly hope this helps.

Thanks locally go to Gerrit Lawrence, Cindy Parker Robertson, the LeBlue family, Pastor Thomas (Highway to Heaven Fellowship Church), the Open Door Biker Church in Sulphur, and the manufacturer, www.clearbrook.net based out of Mobile, Alabama for donating the filters.

I just wanted to share what we have been working on to see how we can help until the city water issues are repaired.
I contacted a water filtration manufacturer, to send them the water contaminant reports and asked if they could create a water filter specifically for Sulphur, La. We have used this water filter manufacturers products on all of our humanitarian relief missions after hurricanes and they are always very eager to help. They sent this triple stage filter for us to test, and over the last two weeks we have done what’s called a longevity test. Each day the volunteer resident would take a picture of the brown/yellow water coming out of the tap and then run the same water through the filter for about an hour until there had been 250 gallons collected in the tank. So far the filter is holding and doing its job. This filter is what we use when we need to set up tent kitchens after hurricanes/floods and it can be hooked up to a water hose for filling a tub, cooking, watering animals and drinking.

We are currently waiting for the final lab test results to confirm the level of contaminant removal and when that’s done we plan to establish the first publicly available “clean water station” at the end of the driveway at a private residence in Sulphur. We have done this in many communities after disaster with very positive results.

We would like to set up a few “clean water stations” in neighborhoods/churches where people can come fill up their own jugs. The filters will be monitored and replaced as needed until the city has repaired the well.

We would love some feed back on this project as a Phase one temporary emergency solution. I know it’s not the long term end goal but it’s been reported that many families can not afford to continue purchasing bottled water for every household need including bathing, cleaning, cooking and drinking. The costs add up quickly.
