Sulphur Businesses will Now be Allowed to Sell Alcohol to Customers in their Vehicles

At the council meeting on September 9, 2019, the Sulphur City Council repealed an ordinance that prohibited the sale of alcoholic beverages to persons in motor vehicles.

The repeal of this ordinance will now allow businesses such as grocery stores, restaurants, and drive-thru daiquiri shops to deliver drinks to customers while they are still in their vehicles. Previously, grocery stores and restaurants were not allowed to sell alcohol to a customer unless they entered the business, and alcohol could not be sold at a drive-thru.

The Sulphur ordinance repealed was Ordinance No. 280 - Selling alcoholic
beverages to persons in motor vehicles prohibited, and was put in place in 1983.
