Sulphur and Carlyss, Louisiana - Daily commuters in Sulphur and Carlyss should prepare for delays as alternating and intermittent lane closures are scheduled for Louisiana Highway 1256 (LA 1256) northbound and southbound, between Interstate 10 (I-10) and Louisiana Highway 108 (LA 108). The roadwork for utility work will affect the right lane of the roadway and is set to take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, beginning Tuesday, June 17, and ending Thursday, June 19, 2025.

LA 1256 serves as a major connector within Calcasieu Parish, running through both Sulphur and Carlyss. Originally established as a business route for LA 27, this stretch was redesignated as LA 1256 in 2003 and has continued to be a vital link for local traffic and businesses. The area impacted by the upcoming lane closures is frequently used by both residents and commercial vehicles traveling between I-10 and LA 108.

According to project details, the work will not result in a full road closure but will require partial closure of the right lane on both the northbound and southbound sides. The lane closures will be alternating and intermittent, meaning sections of the roadway may open and close during the work hours as crews progress with the utility upgrades. This approach helps minimize overall disruption while allowing essential infrastructure improvements to proceed safely and efficiently.

Motorists are urged to remain alert, observe posted signage, and expect changes in traffic patterns during the affected hours. Drivers are encouraged to consider alternate routes or allow for extra travel time, especially during peak morning and afternoon periods.

While no official detour has been announced, the alternating schedule is designed to keep one lane open in each direction to maintain access for emergency vehicles and local businesses. Authorities are also reminding the public that adherence to reduced speed limits and detour signage not only ensures crew safety but also helps prevent incidents in work zones.

This utility project is part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure reliability and capacity throughout Calcasieu Parish.
