Sulphur and Carlyss Drivers Face Lane Closure On Ravia Road Through February 2026 For Utility Work

Sulphur, Louisiana – Starting Monday, Dec. 8, drivers in the Sulphur area should expect delays on a key local route as utility work closes one travel lane for more than two months.

The eastbound lane of Ravia Road, from Areno Road to South Beglis Parkway near Sulphur, will be closed through Feb. 18 for power pole replacement. The work is scheduled to continue for the entire period, and officials note that it is weather dependent, meaning rain or storms could affect the pace of the project.

No detours will be set up for this closure. Instead, traffic will continue to move through the area, but motorists should expect slowdowns as vehicles navigate the single open lane. Drivers are urged to use caution, watch for workers and equipment, and allow extra time for their trips.

The work zone covers a short but important stretch of Ravia Road that connects to South Beglis Parkway, a busy route for local traffic. With the eastbound lane closed, drivers who regularly travel this corridor may want to consider adjusting their schedules, combining trips, or using alternate routes where possible, even though no official detour is in place.

Power pole replacement is routine but essential maintenance for the electrical system. Crews typically use heavy trucks, lifts, and other specialized equipment, which can take up significant space along the roadside. Closing a lane allows workers to operate more safely and gives them room to remove old poles and install new ones.

Because the project is weather dependent, the end date of Feb. 18 could shift if poor conditions cause delays. However, as of now, the closure is expected to remain in effect every day through that date.

Motorists traveling through the area are encouraged to:

  • Reduce speed as they approach the work zone
  • Follow any posted signs and instructions from crews
  • Plan for delays during peak travel times

Drivers who do not need to use Ravia Road between Areno Road and South Beglis Parkway may want to avoid the area to reduce congestion and improve safety for workers and other motorists.
