Student at a Louisiana High School Arrested After Allegedly Threatening a Coach and Being Found in Possession of a Firearm by a Resource Officer

Caddo Parish, Louisiana – A student at a high school in Louisiana was arrested after allegedly threatening a coach and being found in possession of a firearm by a school resource officer.

On March 30, 2023, the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that detectives have arrested a 19-year-old student for allegedly threatening to kill a coach at a Caddo Parish School. Detectives say the incident started in the school’s gym when Caleb Steven Morris, 19, and his coach got into a verbal altercation after Morris was asked to stop vaping at school. Morris then allegedly told the coach “I am going to kill you,” as he left the gym. The teacher is said to have radioed the School Resource Officer (SRO) about the incident.

Caddo Sheriff’s Office SRO Calvin Williams reportedly observed the student attempting to reenter the school in the parking lot, stopped and searched him, and discovered the fully loaded firearm in his backpack. The recovered firearm was a Glock 43X 9mm. Morris was apprehended and taken to the Caddo Parish Detectives Office to be questioned.

According to authorities, Morris revealed to detectives throughout their inquiry that he threatened to kill the coach. Morris was arrested and booked into the Caddo Correctional Center, where he was charged with Terrorizing, Aggravated Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon in a Gun Free Zone.

“I am extremely proud of the quick and decisive action Deputy Williams took,” said Sheriff Prator. “I truly believe that he saved both faculty and possibly students from death or serious bodily harm today.”

Caddo Sheriff’s detectives are still investigating this event. In this case, no bond has been established.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
