Student Arrested in Connection with Threatening Note Discovered at High School in Louisiana
Jennings, Louisiana - On November 3, 2022, the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff's Office revealed that on October 10, 2022, Jeff Davis Sheriff School resource deputies were told that a threatening note had been discovered. Around 9:30 a.m., faculty at Jennings High School discovered the note and reported it to deputies.
School staff and deputies did a threat assessment. It was determined there was no threat to students or faculty at the time and the investigation continued. A student was recognized as the author of the note threatening to shoot up the school.
The student's parent/guardian was alerted and came to the school shortly after. Jeff Davis Sheriff detectives assigned to the inquiry acquired statements and studied camera footage of the school locations where the threatening note was discovered.
The juvenile student engaged was arrested on November 2, 2022, for LSA 14:40.1 Terrorizing and released to a guardian.
School administrators and law enforcement are cracking down on such pranks by students and others. Recently, there have been multiple false active shooter threats in Louisiana and other states.
Authorities indicated that pranks cause disturbance in schools and divert law enforcement from other duties. The safety of the students and faculty is foremost in the minds of the deputies who work at the schools every day. Police indicated that stunts and practical jokes that harm people will be dealt with seriously and perpetrators will be punished. Additional arrests are expected.
