Storm Surge Watches Issued for Eastern Louisiana Cities

Storm Surge Watches Issued Ahead of Alberto

Saturday, May 26, 2018 – 4:00 am –  Friday night and early Saturday morning, the National Weather Service began issuing storm surge watches for parts of East Louisiana near New Orleans. the watches began being issued at approximately 4 PM Friday evening with the last one prior to the writing of this article being issued at 12:56 AM. The watch was triggered by the movement of subtropical storm Alberto in the Gulf of Mexico now moving toward the areas listed below.

A storm surge watch means life-threatening inundation from rising water moving inland from the coastline is possible somewhere within the area within the next 48 hours.

The storm surge watches were issued for the following areas:

  • Lake Front Airport
  • Lake Catherine
  • Port Sulphur
  • Empire
  • Venice
  • Chalmette
  • Arabi
  • Yschlosky
  • Hopedale
  • Reggio
