Louisiana - The National Weather Service in Shreveport, Louisiana is keeping an eye on a cold front that could impact roads as it travels through Louisiana. From Sunday, January 14, 2024, to Tuesday, January 16, 2024, there may be a mix of rain, freezing rain, ice, and snow that affects parts of Louisiana. This weather event could create difficulties for drivers as there is a chance that wintry precipitation could accumulate, and attention is currently concentrated on Northern Louisiana.

Louisiana State Police is urging drivers to stay informed about the current weather and road conditions before going out. - Avoid unnecessary travel.
- Reduce your speed and allow extra time to reach your destination.
- Increase your following distance behind other vehicles.
- Do not use cruise control while driving in wet or icy conditions.
- Anticipate stops, such as stop signs and traffic signals, and brake gently while stopping.
- Be aware that ice may be difficult to see and is especially likely to be present on overpasses, bridges, and shady spots on the roadway.
- If you encounter a skid, take your foot off the accelerator and steer into the skid until you regain control.
- Use low-beam headlights if it is raining or sleeting.
- Watch for slow-moving DOTD vehicles, as well as first responders.
- Ensure all vehicle occupants are properly restrained.
Some roads or parts of roads may be blocked due to weather conditions. LSP is reminding drivers that driving past barricades is against the law and can endanger individuals and property. According to Louisiana legislation, individuals who opt to disregard this rule will be accountable for any harm caused by their actions. Driving around barricades is unlawful and has the potential to be risky. Those who violate this regulation may be subject to fines reaching $500 and/or imprisonment for up to one month. It is crucial to obey traffic laws and regulations to guarantee the safety of all road users.
