Opelousas, Louisiana - Louisiana State Police detectives arrested 58-year-old David Woodson of Opelousas, Louisiana on August 8, 2025, on multiple child sex crime charges following an investigation that began in July 2025, authorities said. Detectives with the Louisiana State Police Special Victim’s Unit (SVU) obtained a warrant from the St. Landry Parish 27th Judicial District Court and took Woodson into custody at his residence; he was booked into the St. Landry Parish Detention Center on the listed charges, and the investigation remains active.

According to State Police, the case originated in July when SVU detectives opened an investigation into alleged sex crimes involving a minor. As the case progressed, investigators secured an arrest warrant for Woodson on three Louisiana statutes: LA RS 14:89.1, Aggravated Crimes Against Nature; LA RS 14:43.1, Sexual Battery of a Victim Under 13; and LA RS 14:81.2, Molestation of a Juvenile. These offenses are among the most serious child sex crime charges under Louisiana law and can carry lengthy prison sentences if convicted.

On August 8, detectives executed the arrest warrant at Woodson’s Opelousas residence and transported him to the St. Landry Parish Detention Center for processing on the charges, State Police reported.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
