State of Louisiana Awarded Almost $3 Million in Grants from The Justice Department
On August 9, 2022, U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Gathe, Jr. announced that the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance had awarded Louisiana State Police and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office a total of $2,986,000.
Louisiana State Police was allocated $2,300,000 to establish and hold the first Law Enforcement Symposium, which focused on de-escalation, use of force tactics, the use of less lethal weapons, and advanced scenario training. These symposiums will take place in tandem with the acquisition and deployment of Virtual Reality Scenario-Based training platforms.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office received $686,000 for a pilot Rapid DNA program for processing reference samples and single-source crime scene evidence. Rapid DNA has the potential to influence investigations by delivering investigative leads in real-time.
