Starks Man Charged with Kidnapping and Attempted 2nd-Degree Murder

Lake Charles, LA – The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reported on March 8, 2022, that on March 6 at around 6:30 p.m., CPSO deputies were dispatched to a home in Starks in reference to an unconscious female.
During the initial investigation, detectives discovered that the victim had been kidnapped against her will by a friend, Matthew D. Estridge, 22, of Starks, Louisiana. Detectives also learned Estridge allegedly threatened to kill the victim and repeatedly hit her, knocking her unconscious.

Following further investigation, detectives issued a warrant for Estridge’s arrest on March 7, which was signed by Judge Kendrick Guidry. Estridge turned himself in later that day, and when detectives spoke with him, he confirmed he was responsible.

Estridge was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with simple kidnapping and attempted 2nd-degree murder. Judge Guidry ordered Estridge be held without bond.

The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Detective Roger Pete of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office is the case’s lead investigator.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
