Speed Suspected as Factor in Crash that Claimed the Life of Louisiana Teen Driver on LA 10

Feliciana Parish, Louisiana – A crash on LA 10 that claimed the life of a Louisiana teen driver is suspected to have been caused by excessive speed says Louisiana State Police.

On June 7th, 2023, the Louisiana State Police (LSP) reported an unfortunate incident that occurred the day before. A single-vehicle crash on LA 10 west of LA 961 in East Feliciana Parish on June 6th claimed the life of 16-year-old Owen Fudge of Ethel, Louisiana.

LSP indicated that investigations revealed that Fudge had been speeding along the westbound lane when he failed to make a left-hand curve and crashed into a tree. Despite being restrained, he succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene. Police said that no intoxication is suspected, but a toxicology sample was taken for further analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Authorities say that excessive speed can be incredibly dangerous in the event of a crash. The impact increases significantly and the protection systems, such as seatbelts and airbags, may not be as effective. Furthermore, the required stopping distance increases, and the amount of time to react to changing road conditions decreases. To ensure the safety of all motorists, it is important to follow all road safety laws.
