Speed Suspected as a Factor in Motorcycle Crash on LA 527 That Claimed the Life of a Louisiana Man

Webster Parish, Louisiana – On October 16, 2022, Louisiana State Police reported that on Saturday, October 15, just after 11:00 p.m., Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop G began investigating a one-vehicle fatality crash on LA Hwy 527 at Junior Edwards Road. Marvin Champlain, 41, of Doyline, Louisiana, was killed in this crash.
The initial inquiry found that Champlain was riding a 2002 Harley-Davidson motorbike south on LA Hwy 527 at a high rate of speed. Champlain exited the highway and was thrown from the motorcycle for unknown reasons.

Champlain, who was not wearing a DOT-approved helmet, suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Webster Parish Coroner.

It is unknown whether impairment played a role in this collision. Routine toxicological samples were collected and analyzed. The crash is still being investigated.

Troopers recommend that all riders undergo a motorcycle safety course.
