Speed Suspected as a Factor in Louisiana Crash that Claimed the Life of Motorcyclist and Injured Passenger on I-12

Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana – Speed is suspected as a factor in a crash in Louisiana that claimed the life of a motorcyclist and injured a passenger on I-12

The Louisiana State Police (LSP) stated on February 27, 2023, that on February 26, just after 3 p.m., Troopers from LSP Troop L began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 12 near LA Highway 445 in Tangipahoa Parish. Joseph Boggs Jr., 39, of Covington, Louisiana, was killed in the crash.

The initial investigation found that the crash occurred as Boggs was riding a 2023 Kawasaki motorcycle westbound in the right lane of Interstate 12. At the same time, a 2021 Volvo 18-wheeler was westbound on Interstate 12 in the right lane, ahead of the Kawasaki. The Kawasaki collided with the rear of the Volvo trailer for unknown reasons. Following the collision, the Kawasaki veered to the right.

Although wearing a DOT-approved helmet, Boggs was severely injured in the crash.

He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries. A passenger on the Kawasaki, who was also wearing a DOT-approved helmet, was seriously injured and was taken to a nearby hospital. The Volvo driver was properly restrained and escaped unharmed. Both drivers had routine toxicological samples taken for analysis. Speed is alleged to have played a role in this crash, and the investigation is ongoing.

Troopers would like to urge motorists to always make sound judgments when operating a vehicle. Making wise decisions while riding a motorbike, such as never driving while intoxicated and observing all traffic regulations, can frequently mean the difference between life and death. Troopers also recommend that all riders undergo a motorcycle safety course. These courses teach safe riding techniques and assist you in using safe riding tactics that can help lower your risk of injury in the event of a mishap.
