Southwest Louisiana to See A Week with Temperatures Dropping into the 20s, Thunderstorms, and a Risk of Flooding on Tuesday

Lake Charles, Louisiana – Southwest Louisiana is expected to see a week of significant fluctuations in weather conditions with a chance of severe weather and flooding. Residents are advised to prepare for potential severe weather, particularly on Tuesday, when thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are anticipated.

Tonight, the region will experience clear skies, with temperatures dropping to a chilly range of 31°F to 40°F. As Monday arrives, sunny conditions will prevail, leading to daytime highs between 56°F and 62°F. However, nighttime temperatures will see a drop, falling to between 39°F and 51°F.

The weather pattern shifts dramatically on Tuesday, as a cold front approaches, bringing with it a high likelihood of thunderstorms. The National Weather Service has indicated a 30% to 70% chance of thunderstorms during the day, with heavy storms expected at night, where the probability escalates to a near certainty of 90% to 100%. Temperatures will also vary significantly, ranging from 34°F to 50°F as the storm moves in.

Wednesday will follow with cloudy skies and a notable drop in temperatures, as highs only reach between 45°F and 60°F. Nighttime lows will plummet to a range of 22°F to 30°F, marking a significant shift in the weather. Thursday will offer partly cloudy skies, with highs between 42°F and 50°F, and nighttime temperatures ranging from 25°F to 35°F.

The end of the workweek, Friday, will see scattered showers with a 20% to 40% chance of rain. Highs will be slightly cooler, between 44°F and 53°F, and evening rain is expected with a 40% to 50% likelihood, leading to overnight lows from 30°F to 40°F.

As the weekend approaches, Saturday’s forecast includes likely showers, with a 20% to 30% chance of precipitation. The daytime highs will range from 50°F to 58°F, while nighttime temperatures will be between 31°F and 41°F, with only slight rain chances lingering between 10% and 20%.

In addition to the weather forecast, the National Weather Service has issued a Marginal Risk for severe weather on Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night. This includes a Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms, with probabilities of severe weather estimated to be between 5% and 14%. Furthermore, there is a Marginal Risk for flooding during the same time frame, as the probability of rainfall leading to flooding also falls within the 5% to 14% range.

Residents in Central and Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas are urged to stay informed about the evolving weather situation, as conditions may change rapidly.
