Warm Front To Bring Storm Risk Back To Lake Charles Area Monday

A warm and moist air mass from the Gulf is expected to move back into Lake Charles and the rest of Southwest Louisiana on Monday, Nov. 24, as a warm front pushes across the region. Forecasters say the pattern will set the stage for showers and thunderstorms, including the potential for some strong to severe storms Monday evening into Monday night.

The setup involves an upper-level disturbance, or weather system higher in the atmosphere, moving across the area at the same time the warm, humid air arrives from the Gulf. When these ingredients combine with an unstable atmosphere, thunderstorms can grow stronger and more organized than usual.

Travelers, especially those driving Monday evening, may face periods of heavy rain, lightning, and potentially hazardous road conditions if storms move through at peak travel times. The stronger storms could also produce brief power interruptions.

Cold Front To Clear Out Storms Tuesday

A cold front is forecast to move through Southwest Louisiana on Tuesday, pushing the warm, unstable air out of the area and bringing a much drier air mass behind it. As this front moves through, rain and storm chances are expected to drop, with conditions improving from west to east.

Behind the front, forecasters expect seasonably cool conditions, meaning temperatures and humidity levels more typical for late November rather than the recent Gulf-influenced warmth. Skies are likely to be clearer, and the air drier, creating more comfortable conditions.

Improving Weather For Holiday Travel And Thanksgiving

The timing of the cold front should benefit those traveling ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. By Wednesday, commonly known as one of the busiest travel days of the year, the weather across Lake Charles and the broader Southwest Louisiana region is expected to be drier and cooler.

These calmer conditions are also expected to continue into Thursday for Thanksgiving, offering more stable weather for those attending gatherings, traveling locally, or spending time outdoors.

What Residents Should Keep In Mind

Because the information points to a clear sequence of changing weather, residents can plan around three distinct phases:

Monday:

  • Warm front arrives.
  • Gulf moisture increases.
  • Strong to some severe storms are possible Monday evening into Monday night.

Tuesday:

  • Cold front moves through.
  • Showers and storms diminish as the day goes on.
  • Conditions begin to dry out.

Wednesday and Thursday (Thanksgiving):

  • Drier air and seasonably cool temperatures.
  • Improved conditions for driving, flying, or outdoor gatherings.

Anyone with flexible travel plans may want to avoid driving during the peak of Monday night’s storms and instead take advantage of calmer conditions later Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.

With a brief period of potentially active weather followed by a more tranquil holiday pattern, Southwest Louisiana residents are set for a week that begins unsettled but turns more cooperative just in time for Thanksgiving plans.
