Southeast Texas to Southern Louisiana on Alert for Severe Thunderstorms

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles, Louisiana has issued a severe weather alert for parts of Southeast Texas and Central and Southern Louisiana. According to the latest report, there is an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms this morning in Southeast Texas, and this afternoon and evening in Central and Southern Louisiana.

Central Louisiana is under an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe thunderstorms, while the remainder of the area faces a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5). The primary threats include tornadoes and damaging winds, although large hail cannot be ruled out.

Furthermore, there is a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 4) of Excessive Rainfall across most of the area. Residents should anticipate rainfall amounts of 1/2 to 1 inch, with locally higher amounts in certain areas.

In addition to the severe weather risks, a Wind Advisory has been issued for all inland areas until 7 PM CDT. Southerly winds are expected to reach 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph likely. Across the marine zones, a Small Craft Advisory remains in effect for all zones due to southerly winds of 20 to 25 knots, with gusts reaching up to 35 knots.
