Louisiana – According to Louisiana State Police, troopers from LSP Troop L began investigating a two-vehicle incident on Interstate 12 at LA Hwy 1088 in St. Tammany Parish soon before 1:00 a.m. on October 1, 2022. Naema Johns, 23, of Beaufort, South Carolina, was killed in the collision.

The incident occurred when Johns was driving eastbound on Interstate 12 in a 2011 Hyundai Sonata, according to the preliminary investigation. At the same time, an eastbound 2009 GMC Sierra was on Interstate 12. The Hyundai came to a stop in the right lane of traffic for unknown reasons. The GMC collided with the Hyundai in the right lane. Following the collision, the Hyundai veered to the right and collided with a tree.

Despite having been securely restrained, Johns died as a result of the crash. She was declared dead at the scene. The GMC driver was properly restrained and had no injuries as a result of the incident. The passenger in the Hyundai was properly restrained and suffered just minor injuries as a result of the collision. The passenger was sent to a nearby hospital. Troopers would like to urge motorists to always make sound judgments when driving. Never drive while inebriated, fatigued, or distracted, and always obey all traffic laws. While not all accidents are avoidable, simple precautions like these can frequently mean the difference between life and death.
