Single-Vehicle Crash Claims the Life of Unrestrained Louisiana Man on LA 1054 After He Collided with a Cement Culvert

Louisiana – Louisiana State Police reported on August 7, 2022, that on August 6, soon after 11:30 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 1054 near Clements Road in Tangipahoa Parish. Triston Pennington, 22, of Loranger, Louisiana, was killed in the crash.

According to authorities, the incident occurred as Pennington was driving southbound on LA Hwy 1054 in a 2009 Toyota Yaris, according to the preliminary investigation. The Toyota veered off the road to the right for unknown reasons and collided with a cement culvert.

Pennington was unrestrained at the time of the crash and died as a result of his injuries. Pennington was declared dead at the scene. A toxicological sample was acquired from the driver for analysis as part of the continuing inquiry. This crash is still being investigated.

This past weekend, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated four tragic crashes. Three of the four fatalities were not properly restrained. According to statistics, wearing your seat belt properly reduces your chances of being seriously injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires that everyone in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, wear their seat belts at all times. Wearing your seat belt correctly is one of the most efficient strategies to save your life and limit injuries in a car accident.
