Shreveport, Louisiana – A Shreveport, Louisiana man has been sentenced to 84 months after a traffic stop led to the discovery of a machine gun, other firearms, and drugs.
Shreveport resident, Tydarrien T. Porter, aged 21, has received a sentence for machine gun possession, according to US Attorney Brandon B. Brown. The District Judge for the United States, S. Maurice Hicks Jr., handed Porter an 84-month prison term, to be followed by three years of supervised release.
Evidence shared in court indicated that on April 13, 2022, a Shreveport Police Department officer pulled over a vehicle driven by Porter. The officer noticed Porter leaning down, seemingly trying to access something underneath the driver’s seat. Another police officer interacted with the vehicle’s other passengers from the passenger’s side and spotted a gun on the back seat, situated between the legs of a male passenger. Two women were also present in the vehicle.
Police instructed all the passengers to step out of the vehicle so they could conduct a search, and during this search, they discovered another gun where one of the women had been seated.
They also found 23 grams of marijuana stored beneath the driver’s seat.
Altogether, the police seized three firearms – a Joe Bob Outfitters AR pistol, a Draco pistol, and a Glock pistol. They found that the Joe Bob Outfitters AR pistol had been modified with a drop-in auto sear, turning it into a machine gun.
Porter confessed to authorities that he owned the AR pistol and marijuana discovered in the vehicle. He was indicted by a federal grand jury for possessing a machine gun. On April 3, 2023, Porter accepted his guilt in response to the charge.
The investigation of the case was undertaken by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Shreveport Police Department. The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Aaron Crawford.
The Western District of Louisiana’s United States Attorney’s Office has recently made a public warning via a Public Service Announcement (PSA) about their strict policy against individuals caught with Glock switches, auto sears, or guns that include either of these items.
