Sheriff in Louisiana Warns Others After Two are Arrested in Connection with Reckless Driving and Property Damage at a Supermarket Parking Lot

Ascension Parish, Louisiana – A sheriff in Louisiana warned others after two people were arrested in connection with reckless driving and property damage at a supermarket parking lot.

Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre reported on March 16, 2023, that at approximately 9:30 p.m. on March 10, deputies from the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to complaints of reckless driving involving many vehicles in various business parking lots throughout the parish. Deputies tracked down the group of drivers and spectators at Ralph’s Supermarket on Highway 44. Deputies reportedly arrived to see multiple automobiles wildly spinning in circles, commonly referred to as “doing donuts.” While the vehicles were spinning, passengers were observed perched on top of the doors.

While the group of drivers and bystanders attempted to flee the scene, deputies were able to make several traffic stops. Avante Jones, 20, was arrested for reckless operation, property damage, and trespassing. Authorities also arrested Schylar Mays, 20, for reckless operation, damage to property, and trespassing.

In a press release about the incident, Ascension Parish Sheriff Webre said “I offer this warning to those who would duplicate this behavior – it will not be tolerated here in Ascension Parish. These dangerous stunts could result in serious injury or death to the drivers and to the bystanders. It is our continuing mission to ensure the safety of the citizens and guests we serve in this great parish. If you think you will get away with such crimes, you should think twice because we will locate you, we will arrest you, and your vehicle will be towed at your expense. Thank you to the concerned citizens who contacted our dispatchers and provided information that led to the safe resolution of this matter.”

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
