Moss Bluff, Louisiana – A storm system moving through the region has caused widespread power outages and significant infrastructure damage, according to local utility officials with Beauregard Electric (beci). The situation has left numerous residents without power, with restoration efforts complicated by extensive wind damage and dangerous conditions.

As of 7:50 pm, on Sunday, January 5, 2025, the Beauregard Electric Outage Map reported that nearly 3,000 customers were without power in Southwest Louisiana. Most of these customers are in the Moss Bluff area, with some also near Sulphur, Gillis, and Topsy.

At 6:45 p.m., utility crews reported multiple downed main power lines and damaged poles throughout the service area. The severity of the damage requires specialized off-road equipment for repairs, suggesting a lengthy restoration process. Officials are advising affected residents to prepare for an overnight power outage, particularly concerning given the forecast of an incoming hard freeze.

The combination of fallen power lines and the need for specialized equipment makes this restoration effort particularly challenging.

Residents are strongly urged to maintain distance from any fallen power lines, as they may remain energized and pose severe safety risks. Emergency response teams are systematically assessing the damage.

Entergy is also reporting some outages in Southwest Louisiana, but not as widespread as those affecting Beauregard Electric customers.
