Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas

Lake Charles, Louisiana – The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has issue a Severe Thunderstor Warning for northwestern Cameron Parish and western Calcasieu Parish in Louisiana, as well as east central Orange County in Texas. The storm, detected at 4:41 a.m. CDT near West Orange, Texas, was moving northeast at approximately 45 mph, bringing with it powerful wind gusts and dangerous lightning.

The warning is in effect until 5:30 a.m. CDT. Weather officials indicated radar had detected wind gusts reaching speeds of 60 mph, capable of causing significant damage to structures and vegetation.

Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Communities in the storm’s path included Carlyss, Vinton, Toomey, Moss Bluff, Sulphur, Orange, Gillis, Edgerly.

Meteorologists noted that the storm was producing large hail, damaging winds, and continuous cloud-to-ground lightning.
