Sandbag Locations Announced for Calcasieu Parish Residents Ahead of Severe Weather

Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana – As severe weather threatens to bring flooding to Calcasieu Parish, the Police Jury has announced the availability of free sandbags for residents to protect their properties. In preparation for potential flooding, the parish has set up emergency sandbag locations, which will be stocked and open to the public when the threat of severe weather is imminent.

Residents can visit one of the nine designated locations to collect sandbags but must bring their own shovels to fill the bags provided. The parish has also implemented measures to ensure safety and efficiency at the sandbagging sites. To avoid overcrowding, residents are limited to 15 sandbags per person but can return for more if needed.

  • Former Old Tyme Variety Store location – 810 Ruth St., Sulphur (sandbagging machine available)
  • Public Works East – 5500-B Swift Plant Road, Lake Charles (sandbagging machine available)
  • Ward 1 Barn – 461 Parish Road, Moss Bluff
  • Ward 2 Barn – 7085 LA 14 East, Hayes
  • Ward 3 Old Barn – 2302 Smith Road, Lake Charles
  • Ward 5 Barn – 129 Third St., Starks
  • Ward 6 Barn – 1275 Plum St., DeQuincy
  • Ward 8 Barn – 1726 Parish Barn Road, Iowa
  • Iowa City Hall – 115 N Thompson Ave, Iowa (baseball field)
  • Vinton Public Works Yard – 1320 Hampton St., Vinton

Parish staff will be on-site to maintain safety operations and supplies, ensuring a smooth and efficient process for residents. It is essential for residents to stay informed about the opening of these locations, as they will only be announced when the threat of severe weather is imminent.
