Remains of Missing Louisiana Man Located by Wildlife and Fisheries Agent
Louisiana – According to Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre, the remains of Robert Lee Hampton, 26, of Gonzales, Louisiana, was discovered in a sugar cane field in Convent, Louisiana. Detectives with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) began looking for Hampton after his family reported him missing on January 19. The St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating this case as a homicide, with assistance from the APSO.
The St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) on January 28, 2023, at 8:18 a.m., reporting that an agent discovered the body of a black male on a sugarcane field road in Convent, Louisiana. When deputies arrived on the scene, they discovered that the male subject had been shot multiple times at the location where his body was discovered.
On January 30, 2023, detectives were able to confirm that the deceased male subject is the same subject who was reported missing in Ascension Parish on January 25, 2023. Robert Lee Hampton, 26, was the victim. Robert lived in Bay City, Texas, and had family in Ascension Parish.
Since the discovery of Robert’s body, the St. James Sheriff’s Office has been collaborating with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office on this investigation. Robert was reported missing by family members in Ascension Parish on January 25, 2023. Detectives were told that the last time anyone saw or spoke to Robert was on January 19, 2023. On January 19, 2023, a black 4-door Dodge Charger was discovered burned in Ascension Parish.
Anyone with information about the murder of Robert Lee Hampton is asked to call the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office at 225-562-2200 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers of Greater New Orleans. Crime Stoppers of Greater New Orleans will pay a cash reward of up to $2500 for information leading to an arrest and indictment. Furthermore, Crime Stoppers Greater New Orleans will offer a $1000 cash reward for information leading to the recovery of the gun used in this homicide or any gun used in a crime.
