City of Lake Charles Reports West Prien Lake Road Widening Project Progressing as Planned

Lake Charles, Louisiana - The City of Lake Charles and Calcasieu Parish Police Jury are making significant strides in the joint West Prien Lake Road Widening Project, with the endeavor remaining on track for its original completion date in spring 2025.

The comprehensive project encompasses the widening of West Prien Lake Road from Cove Lane to Ihles Road, featuring a new bike path on the west side and sidewalks on the east side. In addition to these enhancements, major upgrades are being made to the drainage, water, and sewer infrastructure along the road.

One of the key components of the project, the reconstruction of Sale Road, has been successfully completed. Sale Road now boasts a 3-lane roadway stretching from Rue Chan Ann Lane to West Prien Lake Road, providing improved connectivity and accessibility for residents.

The widening and paving of West Prien Lake Road south of Sale Road have also been finalized, allowing for the smooth flow of north and southbound traffic. Construction is currently in progress on the northbound section of West Prien Lake Road, involving widening, new drainage infrastructure, and concrete pavement installation. Notably, a temporary traffic detour is in place for northbound traffic, directing vehicles via Sale Road to Burton Lane.

Moreover, the closure of Henderson Bayou Road at its intersection with West Prien Lake Road has been extended to facilitate the installation of new concrete pavement. Weather permitting, this intersection is slated to reopen by Friday, April 19, 2024.

The City of Lake Charles recognizes the community's eagerness for swift project completion and emphasizes that the awarded contractor is adhering to the estimated timeline established by a third-party engineer during the bidding process. Once finalized, the West Prien Lake Road Widening Project will serve as a substantial investment in road infrastructure, enhancing sewer systems, drainage networks, and overall quality of life for residents in the city.
