Westlake, Louisiana – Prater Road in Westlake will be closed to through traffic from Nov. 3 through Nov. 8 as construction crews work to connect an underground water main, according to an announcement from the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury.
The closure will affect the section of Prater Road between Old Spanish Trail and King Street. Motorists needing to travel through the area during the closure period will need to use an alternate route.
The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury has established a detour that will direct drivers along East Napoleon Street, Coach Williams Drive, and East Burton Street. Officials recommend that drivers allow additional time for their commutes and exercise caution while navigating the detour route.
The water main connection project is part of ongoing infrastructure improvements in the Westlake area. Underground water mains are large pipes that carry water from treatment facilities to neighborhoods and businesses throughout a community.
Weather conditions could impact the project timeline. Officials noted that work may be delayed if bad weather occurs during the scheduled closure period, though no specific alternate dates have been announced.
The nearly one-week closure is expected to provide crews with sufficient time to complete the underground connection work.
Drivers who regularly use Prater Road for their daily commutes should plan alternate routes beginning Nov. 3 and continuing through Nov. 8.
